I have noticed that starting this week, the East Penn Railroad has been doing tie replacement in Oxford yard. I also noticed that they have new rail that is next to Hodgson Street, and signs up say that the road will be closed this Friday until Monday or Tuesday for repairs. They also have a whole lot of ties sitting in the yard and along with a lot of stone. Looks like the East Penn is doing a good job on getting grant money.

After going to the fire works this 4th of July in Nottingham County Park, I came up with an idea. For next year, we should find some way to get a passenger train to run from Oxford to Herrs to help bring in more people. Many people can park in town and take the train down, instead of jamming up the roads and the already limited parking down at the event. We could even go one step further and pick up people from the other towns on the line and take them out as well.

As for getting to the park from Herrs wouldn't be much of a challenge since they already have busing to the park from there. I would think this would be a good money maker for the railroad and also a good jump start as to saying that people want to see trains running here again.

I stopped by the Strasburg Railroad earlier today, and was pleasantly surprised to see Car #10 of the Lancaster, Oxford, and Southern Railroad (or, if you prefer, the "Little, Old, and Slow") sitting on the 'ready' track behind the SRR engine house. It appears to have been completely refurbished (both inside and out), and from the brief glimpse I managed to get, it also appears to be riding on a pair of powered trucks.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to stop and ask anyone what SRR plans to do with her, but the thought struck me of having old #10 pay the Oxford Region a 'home-coming' visit, perhaps to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the railroad coming to the region!

In addition, I do not believe we would be able to have #10 make an appearance under her own power, nor do I think it would be possible to pull her DIT, since, at least at first glance, there might be some AAR interchange rules compliance issues (forgot to notice if the wheel sets had been modernized with roller bearings, or if they still retained the packed journals; also, #10 is still equipped with antiquated hook-and-loop couplers at each end).

I plan to revisit the SRR either tomorrow or Friday, depending on the weather, so I may get some answers... at the very least I'll get a few dozen photos to add to the site!

I was just past there today and noticed that it is a whole new siding that was just finished. They had some cars all ready on it using it. Looks like the East Penn Railroad sure is busy and getting things done.

Hi again. With the development going on around Cecil CO and with APG going to expand soon, traffic will for sure be unbearable. I hate to see what Aberdeen will look like a few years from now. Especially route 40.

I am a young man who is a railroader to heart. I am very intrigued to what OATS is doing and hoping to find employment when OATS is ready. I notice over the past few years here in Cecil County, MD how much traffic has grown. A line through here will be VERY beneficial.

I enjoyed the show. I too can't understand why such an elegant and efficient mode of transportation as trains has "devolved" in this region when it was in place and ahead of its time 100-100 plus years ago. Something is very wrong with that!!!!
