I love railroads and have drooled at the idea of taking a train from West Grove into Philadelphia. But I have reservations about the rail idea. Will it go to places that people need to get to? I still don't see how the train will take a significant number of people to the places they need to go. The rail line does not go by any supermarkets, major stores, restaurants, or hospitals. If the line connects to other transportation lines such as Septa Regional Rail, Amtrak, or MARC then it may have viability.

The other problem is that unless such a line runs frequently then there is little convenience in having such a line. Also, unlike the other commuter lines, the Chester County line is not electrified. This makes for very expensive operation of diesel engines that will only go up as fuel costs increase.

I think the train is fun idea that may be doomed as a realistic transportation option. I suggest the line be used for tourist trips first. It would be fun if regular sightseeing trips were offered several times throughout the year. Such trips have at least of chance of recovering their costs and may help gauge interest in a commuter option.

I was out and about on Thursday and saw a big brush cutter sitting behind Herr's. Then on Friday I went back out and found that they have cut back all the brush and trees from Herr's to the cement company down near Sylmar. Any one have any idea what they are working on?

They want to open service to sylmar. Cameron Brothers are renting the yard at sylmar and they did a lot of the clearing. I heard that every fourth tie needs to be replaced. So I don`t know where the money to do this is going to come from. They want to make it at least to the cement factory in hopes of getting some business from there.

I just read the Cecil Whig and saw the story about fixing up the rail line from Sylmar to the Susquehanna river. My question is who is going to pay for this? I know that before you even get to Rising Sun there are Two bridges that have been taken out , they filled the cut at Rising Sun near the Martins , filled the cut where the bridge was on Hopewell road , removed the bridge on Liberty grove road and once you get below liberty grove there is a mess on bridges that would need repair on replacement. Look at the bridge that goes over the Octaroro creek

I was unable to attend the meeting in Colora Monday night. How did it go anything new to be learned? Or was the meeting more about the Jubilee that is coming up?

OATS had a great public meeting sponsored by The Colora Civic Association on this past Monday Night at Colora. (April 20, 09 7:30 PM and ended well after 10 PM)

52 People attended plus the Colora Civic Assoc. people and OATS representatives. This was the first time we presented our PowerPoint presentation in a public meeting venue. The program went very well.

A big part of why we would hold these types of meetings is to find out what the concerns are for people living in the various regions up and down the Octoraro Railroad Corridor. We heard a lot of good questions and comments. We heard some excellent suggestions and ideas which we will most likely incorporate into our program.

We had very positive unsolicited support from many of the people present. We are sorry that you missed the meeting and hope you can make it to the next one. We will announce the scheduling of any future community meetings in advance and we encourage you to stay in touch.

I just got a complete different story on the Colora meeting from the Colora Civic Association, meeting was very heated with a lot of arguing. looks like the web master had on rose colored glasses?
John Stevenson got very upset with the fact that people from the Colora area have no interest in trains running again. She also told me that the railroad sold some of the line to landowners in the New Valley area?
Wish I was able to attend because I have got two different stories on the meeting.
